Liturgical music expresses in song the theology of the Church. At Epiphany of the Lord Parish, we attempt incorporate a variety of liturgical music pieces that reflect both traditional and contemporary genres. Here you will find a variety of liturgical music opportunities for you to become involved in:
A cantor must have a pleasant singing voice, be willing to help lead the singing and to sing some Mass music alone, and be able to learn new music and assist the assembly in learning new music as needed.
Occasional cantor practices are held, and attendance is strongly encouraged but not mandatory. Assistance in learning music can be provided as needed. The cantor’s role is twofold. A cantor leads the Responsorial Psalm as well as the Gospel Acclamation, which focuses our attention on the message of the Gospel which follows. In addition to the solo roles, the cantor also leads the hymns of the Mass. Additional cantor opportunities may include leading at communal penance services during Advent and Lent, and soloing at funerals or weddings.
If you play an instrument (organ, piano, trumpet, flute, violin, etc.) to the extent that you have moderate performance ability, please consider joining our music ministry. Instrumentalists are welcome to play for regular weekend Liturgies, but if time constraints do not allow for weekly rehearsal attendance on Wednesday nights, consider volunteering your God-given gifts for special Masses at Christmas, Lent or Easter, or for special events.
